World-class Desalination System?
The first few days after our arrival, all the lines on my palms turned white every time I came out from the shower. Having stayed in some cities with hard water before, I immediately freaked out about possible bad hair scenarios again. Husband reassured me that the water here is desalinated and the white lines on my hands might just be the aftermath of the long haul flight.
Bad hair scenarios began and the white lines continued to emerge every time after a shower. So I started researching about the water here. I saw two newspaper articles interviewing expat "experts" who raved about the "world-class" desalination system. Even if the interviews were not a PR effort and the system might actually be the best of its kind; but who can say that desalination is a perfect solution??
In my next shower, I accidentally tasted the water and it was slightly salty!
After digging up more info, I read in forums about how people started losing their hair after living here for just one week and how they would not drink the tap water.
Of course I rushed to the supermarket to get myself some water filters straight away! Saw on the shelves a range of hand pumps for drinking water tanks.
I got myself a water filter for the kitchen tap and then went out to a hardware shop on Najd Street to buy a shower water filter. No more white lines and flat hair after showering ever since!

Forget about "experts' views"; I believe in the reality as illustrated by market demand.
